StartMeeting’s Greg Plum Named to CompTIA Telecom Advisory Council

StartMeeting, a synchronized audio and web conferencing service, announced that Greg Plum, Vice President for Channel Development, has been named to CompTIA’s Telecom Advisory Council, a new industry group centered on the growing convergence of telecommunications and information technology (IT).

CompTIA is a recognized authority in IT education and public policy advocacy, and the largest non-profit IT trade association in the world. Its Telecom Advisory Council was created to provide strategic insight and vendor-neutral guidance on the evolving and expanding relationships between agents who sell telecom services and IT solution providers who focus on data needs – historically two separate sales channels that are moving closer together out of business necessity and customer demand.

“The worlds of telecom and IT continue to converge as a rapid pace, making it incumbent on our industry to identify the challenges and develop strategies to address this trend,” said Annette Taber, vice president, channel strategies, CompTIA. “CompTIA is pleased to welcome Greg Plum and StartMeeting to the Telecom Advisory Council. Their expertise, insights and perspectives will be valuable in the discussions we have and the results we deliver.”

StartMeeting is a suite of telecommunications services to maximize person-to-person contacts through three options:  StartMeeting Audio, StartMeeting Studio, and StartMeeting Live.

StartMeeting Audio is free reservationless Audio Conferencing with up to 1,000 callers.

StartMeeting Studio allows users to create a presentation with audio and desktop content, and share it for free via email or upload to the web for the world to see.

StartMeeting Live is a synchronized audio and web conferencing service that incorporates state-of-the-art features including screen sharing of files, spreadsheets, presentations, and other content; cloud-based meeting recording and playback; and a customizable online Meeting Wall.

With the combination of free and fee-based services, StartMeeting gives the customer an unparalleled versatility with the highest value.  The quality of StartMeeting’s offerings was recognized in 2012 with an Internet Telephony Excellence Award from TMC.

“It's an honor to be a member of CompTIA’s (http://www.comptia.org/home.aspx) Telecom Advisory Council and to be joining such a distinguished group of council members,” says Plum. “CompTIA is a leader in the IT industry and it is important in shaping best practices within the changing IT and telecommunications marketplace.”

Among the issues before the council are establishing and protecting account ownership; rules for interfacing with customers; structures for formal contracts and communications; project management rules; adoption of new technologies, business models and markets; and operational efficiencies.
