Patton’s US-Manufactured EFM DSLAM Leverages Copper Lines to Deliver up to 22.8 Mbps per Channel

GAITHERSBURG, MD: Patton (www.patton.com) is now taking orders for the new ForeFront™ 3310RC G.SHDSL.bis Premium Services Blade. Patton’s new EFM DSLAM rack-card enables carriers, service providers, businesses, governments and other organizations to leverage existing last-mile network facilities to deliver Ethernet services to subscribers (or internal users) as far away as 1.6 miles/2.6 kilometers—at speeds up to 22.8 Mbps.

In private networks, the FF3310 can provide Ethernet connections to such devices as wireless access points, IP cameras, perimeter security devices, industrial PLCs, weather-monitoring meters and many others. Today’s announcement comes just a few weeks after Ethernet marked its fortieth birthday.

“Ethernet is still expanding” said Johnnie Grant, Product Manager, “reaching far beyond traditional office installations and residential LANs. By extending the useful life of existing copper circuits Patton’s EFM technology preserves public or private capital investment. Our solution lets you maximize the long-term value of what you already have.”

"Patton’s solution is powered by the Ikanos Orion™ Plus chipset family," states Jon Black, Director of CPE Marketing at Ikanos. "For years our SHDSL platforms have been helping our customers leverage the embedded copper infrastructure with high-performance, long-reach solutions. The collaboration with Patton on the FF3310 platform demonstrates the value and market drive for EFM based services.”

Delivering symmetrical 5.7 Mbps per wire-pair, the 24-port EFM DSLAM rack-card provides sufficient IP-bandwidth for premium voice, video, and data services. Employing advanced 2BASE-TL technology, the FF3310 can bond up to 4 copper twisted-pairs to create a single 22.8 Mbps channel.

The 24-line FF3310 rack card is designed for installation in Patton’s cPCI ForeFront™ 2U/4U/6U chassis—scaling up to 312 links per 6U chassis. Manufactured in the USA at Patton’s Maryland factory and headquarters, Patton’s ForeFront brand indicates high-quality, reliable, carrier-grade communications equipment. ForeFront, like all Patton products, comes with Patton’s Gold-Standard Free Support at no additional charge. Patton’s Platinum Premium 24/7 Support is also available.

Equipped with four Gigabit Ethernet ports, the FF3310 makes it easy to segregate multiple private or public networks. Customers who want fiber-network connectivity may order the EFM DSLAM with two optional SFP slots.

Compliant with ITU-T 991.2 G.SHDSL, G.SHDSL.bis, and IEEE 802.3ah standards, the FF3310RC is fully interoperable with any G.SHDSLbis EFM-compliant CPE device—including Patton’s US-manufactured OnSite 3088A. Patton plans to release a standalone “pizza-box” version of the EFM DSLAM that will provide 24 bondable lines. The 1U rack-mountable FF3310P announcement is expected soon.

iPass Announces Partnership with Accuris Networks to Deliver Device-Based AAA on Wi-Fi Networks

iPass Inc. (http://www.ipass.com/) (NASDAQ: IPAS), a leading provider of mobile services for enterprises (http://www.ipass.com/solutions/open-mobile/) and telecom service providers (http://www.ipass.com/open-mobile-exchange/), today announced its partnership with Accuris Networks, an innovator in Wi-Fi roaming, to deliver a solution for a seamless and secure device-based Authentication, Authorization and Accounting (AAA) for Wi-Fi roaming on both Android and iOS platforms. Together, iPass and Accuris have created a solution that enables Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) to merge Wi-Fi and cellular network access into a single retail offer.

The solution provides a ‘cellular-like’ user experience across today’s WISPr networks by automatically generating and mapping Wi-Fi credentials for subscribed devices from the mobile identity that defines the User Equipment in an operator’s network. The solution is delivered via interconnect with the iPass Services Fabric using  3GPP/3GPP2 standard interfaces, freeing operators from the need to deploy new infrastructure and the cumbersome task of managing usernames and passwords for their Wi-Fi subscribers.

“The iPass/Accuris device-based AAA solution removes the operational challenges of merging Wi-Fi and cellular services together,” said Marcio Avillez, vice president of network services, iPass. ‘Until now, MNOs could not authenticate Wi-Fi access at the device level, because the majority of Wi-Fi networks only supported WISPr v1.0, and this required authentication to be performed via RADIUS username and password. While 802.1x / EAP authentication, including EAP-SIM/AKA is growing and is supported by the service, its use in Wi-Fi roaming is still limited.   Achieving market success requires a solution that will span multiple generations of Wi-Fi networks, leveraging the world’s current supply. By partnering with Accuris, we have created a solution to allow users to roam onto legacy Wi-Fi networks, helping to make Wi-Fi roaming widely available and relevant to the subscriber.”

“Our solution is ideal for bundling Wi-Fi with cellular data roaming plans to drive down International Operator Tariffs (IOT) costs,” said Aidan Dillion, chief technology officer, Accuris Networks. “The partnership with iPass drastically expedites speed-to-market for MNOs by using existing systems, processes and personnel. A mobile device identifier, not a person or user, remains the common element to provisioning, authorizing and charging for services.”

The ultimate goal of launching an International Wi-Fi Roaming service is to facilitate access to as broad and meaningful a footprint of Wi-Fi hotspots in as possible, in as many foreign locations as possible, in a simple and easy-to-use manner while ensuring a positive experience for their subscribers. The iPass/Accuris solution now makes that goal achievable with device-based AAA services.

Kolmisoft and 5gFuture are ready to deliver next-generation visual monitoring capabilities

This integration will allow MOR customers to have real-time charts and reports for over 30 VoIP parameters, including Active calls, Total attempts, Switched minutes, ACD, ASR, ABR, NER, PDD, % of short calls, % of certain disconnect codes, as well as price and profit statistics.

5gVision charts and reports are based on elaborate fabric of pre-calculated statistics for every object combination in a switch (for instance, Customer->Destination->Vendor), resulting in an amazing speed of retrieving data on thousands of objects over the spans of weeks or months. 5gVision is also giving carriers a highly flexible alerting tool that practically eliminates a need for traditional "watch it all the time" monitoring.

MOR Class 4/5 Softswitch with Billing and Routing enables VoIP providers to offer various services. Additional functionality available with MOR helps to add value to the services and allows starting and managing any kind of business models like wholesale termination & origination, retail/residential VoIP telephony, calling cards, call shops, etc. It is a full solution with no need to any additional equipment to manage a particular business model.

Andrew Han, CEO of LUCA Technology GmbH, and a dedicated customer of MOR and 5gVision:

"Before we migrated to MOR and 5gVision, we were working in the dark, knowing our statistics only at the end of the day. Getting these stats out of the switch was hard and unsatisfying manual work. Many times, if you make a small mistake in the request, you wait for minutes and minutes to get the report done to only realize that you need to correct the input and wait again.

After we started using MOR - 5gVision bundle, transparency got there instantly. Now we are able to monitor the softswitch activity inside in a near real time, also seeing how numbers of active calls, ACD, ASR, Short calls, profits etc. are evolving over time in nice and intuitive graphs.

One of the unique features of 5gVision charts is ability to compare current statistics with the previous period statistics. It allows zooming any period in the past and seeing detailed statistics at that time.

At the same time MOR enabled us to be more efficient. It is faster and also has more control on debugging. Most important that we can have customized features getting implemented like blacklisting.

We are very happy with a combination that we have found. MOR is an excellent switching and billing engine; 5gVision is a near-perfect data mining tool for tons of CDRs that normally would require long time to process in order to create a graph or a report. None of simple in-house solutions would work here, once you go past several million CDR records a month."
